June 21, 2025: From the Desk of Chairman Alex Plechash

Dear Friends,

This has been one of the most difficult and heartbreaking weeks in Minnesota’s political history. For the first time, a sitting state elected official was assassinated.

We do not take that lightly. It’s a tragedy that shakes us all to the core.  Bombastic rhetoric, taken to the extreme, results in actions like what we witnessed last week. That’s what hatred and evil looks like … regardless of politics.  We offer our deepest condolences and prayers for peace to the victims, their families, their friends, and their colleagues.

This type of political violence is not an isolated event. We see it across the country, but especially here in Minnesota of late. The temperature in Minnesota politics has been rising for years—through the pain of the COVID-19 lockdowns, ground-zero of the BLM riots, and the growing national spotlight on leaders like Governor Tim Walz and Congresswoman Ilhan Omar. The rhetoric has escalated on all sides, and it has led us to a very dangerous place.

Politics matters and we must do better. The escalating zero-sum anger, the dehumanization, and the constant outrage must stop. As Republicans, we are the party of freedom, personal responsibility, and liberty. Let’s refocus on those values and lead by example. Peacefully.

Let’s celebrate our freedom not just with words, but with actions—by helping our neighbors, volunteering in our communities, strengthening the civic bonds that hold us together … and honest debate in the public sphere. These aren’t just campaign slogans; they’re how we live our values every day. Let’s make that the foundation of our movement.

As Scripture reminds us: Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God.”—Romans 13:1.

We are called to respect our leaders—regardless of party.

This is a very difficult time for all elected officials. Let’s reach out and thank them for their service, for the time they spend away from family and friends, and for their dedication to making our communities stronger. A simple word of encouragement can mean more than we realize.

To you, the donors, the grassroots volunteers, the organizers, the influencers: you are our community leaders. You are the soul of this party. You represent life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness—and it’s time we shine even brighter.

Let us move forward together. Let’s call out injustice when we see it. Let’s support our Republican officeholders and candidates. Let’s be the beacon of light in politics that draws people in—not drives them away.

Last week, we were forced to postpone our State Central meeting. In the coming days, you’ll receive official notice of the rescheduled meeting. When that time comes, I urge each of you to attend, to speak up, and to take part in building something truly special.

We are on the cusp of building a winning, statewide Republican Party—one that can lead Minnesota in 2026 and beyond. Let’s keep moving forward, together.

In strength, service, and unity,

Alex Plechash, Chairman
Republican Party of Minnesota
