July 12, 2025: From the Desk of Chairman Alex Plechash
This week, the Minneapolis City Council unveiled yet another bad idea:
a proposal to raise local income taxes on so-called “high earners.” Their plan? Punish success, ignore accountability, and double down on the very policies that have already driven families, jobs, and public safety out of the city.
They claim they want “equity.” What they really want is control — of your wallet, your choices, and your future.
This is why Republicans must fight at all levels, including in deep-blue Minneapolis. The Left’s agenda doesn’t stop at the border of rural Minnesota. It’s right here — and if we ignore it, we enable it.
Here’s What the DFL Agenda Looks Like:
- Local tax hikes on job creators — even as businesses flee
- Anti-police rhetoric while violent crime festers
- Sweeping government programs with no oversight and zero accountability
- Constant attacks on workers who just want to keep what they earn
They’re not just taxing the “rich.” They’re targeting anyone who dares to succeed — and using that money to prop up bloated bureaucracy and broken promises.
Meanwhile, Republicans Are Delivering:
This week, our Republican delegation helped pass the Big Beautiful Bill, and Minnesotans should be proud:
- Eliminates the federal tax on tips
- Expands the Child Tax Credit
- Makes Social Security tax-free for most seniors
- Cracks down on fraud like we saw in Feeding Our Future
- Strengthens border security and law enforcement
And guess who couldn’t handle it?
Rep. Ilhan Omar.
She held a press conference to attack the bill — calling it “devastating” and accusing Republicans of lying. The reality? Her reaction proves we’re doing something right.
As I’ve said: “When Ilhan Omar is that triggered, we must be winning.”
We’re Not Backing Down!
Republicans are showing up everywhere — from Greater Minnesota to downtown Minneapolis. Because we believe everyone deserves safe streets, economic freedom, and a government that works for them, not against them.
Thank you for standing with us. Let’s keep fighting — and winning — together.
Alex Plechash, Chairman
Republican Party of Minnesota
